Lokeren a municipality located in the Belgian province of East Flanders covers 67,50k m² and has 38.000 citizen. The Local Police force performs the “basic police function†and carries out at least six basic missions: district policing, reception, intervention, aid to victims, local investigation and public order. Since the police are 24/24 on duty, the management of transport as cars, motorbikes, bicycles is vital to guarantee their services. Making sure everyone gets the assigned vehicle and follow-up the use of them is very time consuming. All lot of expensive mobile equipment is used and shared by the departments; since not everyone is trained to use specific equipment, control and accountability is required. Furthermore access to office keys and gun safes. All these keys where on a panel with hooks at the reception desk. All keys of the vehicle are stored in a proxSafe system, each police men and women has access to a certain number of keys depending on the department. When a specific action is planned, the vehicles are reserved, making sure they are present when the action starts.
The smaller equipment is store in the proxSafe cabinets; the bigger material stored in a standard lockers of which the keys are stored in the proxSafe system. As a result administrative overhead has been reduced and staff has more time for real police work. Further the responsibility for the material is now higher and by consequence there are less replacements and breakdown service costs. Four proxSafe maxx cabinets have been installed on site, each holding 32 keys or key bundles. The credentialing technology used by the access control system has been embedded for high security.
„No time lost anymore to find keys, more responsibility for the used objects resulting in less repair & replacement costs.“
