proxSafe maxx for higher security at Renault

The „Technocenter“ in Guyancourt (France) focuses all of Renault's research and development processes. 11,500 engineers, technicians and designers are working here. Security of data and product innovations are the highest priority.

Tasks:
Because employees from other companies regularly come and go at the Renault Technocenter, the protection against industrial spionage is in high focus at Renault. This includes records of a comprehensive access control system. In addition, Renault wanted to optimize the management of keys and worker's cards.

Solution:
It was decided to use the deister proxSafe maxx system, designed to secure and manage keys and valuables. The keys or worker's cards are attached on a keyTag, an electronic key ring, with the help of a disposable seal. The keyTag is identified contactless at each withdrawal and return of the keys and worker's ID cards. The installed key and ident management system is able to control up to 32 key cabinets and managing up to 1.024 keys or ID cards.

All movements and use of the keyTags are logged and archived. Therefore the card holder  identifies himself to the access control reader of the terminal. It is then displayed to him on the screen, which keyTag he can take out. The desired key is released from the key cabinet - by returning the key it is automatically assigned back to its place. A particular challenge for the installation of the key management system was to link it with the highly hacker safe network of Renault and manage the key administration from their own system.

Benefits:
For Renault it is now always clear, which employees have been present when and where. Overall, approximately 1.000 keys for technical premises, offices, conference rooms, but also from cars that´s being worked on, are now managed in a consistent and unambiguous way in Guyancourt. The key cabinets from deister electronic can almost be installed in any other place or be expanded or reorganized. The large memory of the operating terminals makes the system extremely reliable, it even bridges network or power failures.The cabinets are protected by space-saving automatic roller shutters.

The proxSafe system with RFID technology ensures that the keyTags do not get in contact with the electronics. Pollution and wear of the slots are therefore excluded. Also malfunctions or failures belong to the past. All moving parts are designed to be extremely robust and have been through intensive testing.
